Our
Mission
The San
Francisco Deputy Sheriffs'
Association represents over
800 peace officers in the City and
County of San Francisco, on matters
of hours, wages, and working
conditions related to their
employment with the San Francisco
Sheriff's Department.
The
San Francisco Deputy Sheriff's
Association's mission is to
provide and maintain a professional
labor and political organization.
To accomplish the organization's
goals, the SFDSA will:
-
Support the highest professional
standards for peace officers by
encouraging the departmental
establishment of training,
promotional
opportunities, and to encourage
educational incentives for its
members to continue higher
education;
-
Encourage activities which
improve the morale and general
welfare
of the members;
-
Encourage activities among the
association members that provide
community services in the San
Francisco Bay Area.
Our History
The
San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’
Association (SFDSA) had its humble
beginnings in the early 1950’s with
less than one hundred employees.
Initially, the SFDSA served as the
social arm for the deputies.
In subsequent years, the membership
grew and began to express an
interest in health and welfare
issues. The SFDSA became recognized
by all phases of City & County
government in the mid 1970’s. The
SFDSA began to provide collective
bargaining and professional
representation for Sheriff’s sworn
employees.
The leadership was generally
provided by the president and
executive board. Over the years,
more demands were placed on the
SFDSA to represent members in a
variety of ways. The SFDSA
represents its membership in the
community through participation in
sports, charity and many other
social activities.
Aside from the responsibility of all
deputies to serve the public, they
still find time to host and
contribute to an annual scholarship
program. The SFDSA also sponsors the
delivery of Thanksgiving meals to
indigent elderly, Shopping for the
Back to School and Holidays with a
deserving child, a Holiday Toy
Drive, a Special Olympics Annual
Fundraisers and Torch Run, Self-help
for Elderly and contributes to many
causes that assist youth and
elderly.
The current San Francisco Deputy
Sheriffs’ Association officers,
executive board members are
dedicated to serving the needs of
its members as well as providing
assistance to the community.
