Ernest Freeman Smith, Jr.
June 2, 1962 - January 11, 2008

The sun rose in Des Moines, Iowa on June 2, 1962, bringing with it a new day and a new life, Ernest Freeman Smith, Jr. He was the second child of three children born to the union of Earnest and Christina Smith.

graduated from Serramonte High School in Daly City. He then attended DeVry Institute in Arizona for two years. In 1992, he graduated from the San Francisco Police Academy. he confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at St. Luke Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and later became a member of New Hope Christian Center. On October 15, 1994, he married Yolanda Stephens and they have three beautiful children: Monique Jasmine, Te'Anha Chantel and Jadyn Setherie Scott.
 
He was employed as a San Francisco Deputy Sheriff and he worked faithfully and dutifully for 17 years. His daughter, Monique, also works for the San Francisco Sheriff's Department as a Cadet.
 
He loved football and was considered a die-hard Raider fan. He was a caring, giving, loving, and faithful husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was affectionately known among family and friends as "Poncho." He could always be counted on to bring smiles and joy to those whose lives he touched. He had a very contagious laugh. He was valued and loved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed, ntil we see him again on that "Great Gettin' Up Mornin'."
 
Ernest Freeman Smith, Jr. departed this "earthly life" on Friday, January 11, 2008, leaving to cherish his memory all who loved and knew him: A Devoted Wife, Yolanda Smith; three children: Monique Flores, Te'Anha Smith and Jadyn Smith; mother, Christina Smith; father, Earnest Smith, Sr.; stepmother, Denise Smith; mother-in-law, Mary Stephens; father-in-law, Wendell Stephens; sisters: Ernestine Smith and Tenishia Alexander, brother, Eric Smith; brothers-in-law: Keith Alexander and Kelvin Dickens; sisters-in-law: Danielle Smith, Sabrina Stephens and Kim Tate (Sister-Cousin); nieces:Tamieka Smith, Mya Smith, Tamia Alexander, Aleah Dickins and Ariel Dickins; nephews:John Altiver, Keith Alexander, Jr., Kalob Williams, Kadin Williams and Nicholas Gibson; and a host of other relatives and friends
